Cetearyl Alcohol NF is used as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener, and carrying agent for other ingredients. Naturally derived from coconut and vegetable oils. Cetearyl Alcohol can be used to modify rheology and viscosity in the creation of both O/W and W/O emulsions. Cetearyl Alcohol also imparts its own emolliency in the formulation. Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of the fatty alcohols cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol which are made by catalytic hydrogenation of the triglycerides obtained from vegetable and coconut oils, followed by oxidation of a chain growth product of ethylene oligomerized on a triethylaluminum catalyst.
