Product Description
WHY CHOOSE MINERAL OIL FOR BREAK IN?
Using mineral oil for engine break-in is a traditional method advocated by experts and enthusiasts alike. It offers controlled lubrication due to its larger and irregular molecules, creating a smoother and thicker film on engine components. This helps protect critical parts during the initial wear-in period. Mineral oil also improves ring sealing, ensuring proper contact between piston rings and cylinder walls. This reduces the risk of oil consumption and compression loss.
Furthermore, mineral oil's fewer additives and detergents facilitate a gentler cleaning process during break-in, allowing engine components to settle and wear gradually.
Cost-effectiveness is another advantage, as mineral oils are generally more affordable than synthetic oils, which are often used for regular engine maintenance. Ultimately, the choice between mineral oil and synthetic oil for engine break-in depends on your manufacturers recommendations, and engine requirements. It's best to consult the manufacturer's engine build guidelines for the most suitable oil for the break-in process
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL BREAK-IN SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?
Most aftermarket engine manufacturers will provide a break-in oil maintenance schedule. If not, or your unsure, heres what a typical schedule would look like.
example is based on the SUBARU EJ and FA engine platform!
- 0 miles (first fill before start-up): Mineral Oil
- 50 miles after initial start up: Mineral Oil
- 500 mile interval: Mineral Oil
- 1500 mile interval: Mineral Oil
- 2500 mile interval: Mineral Oil
-3000 mile interval: switching to recommend Synthetic Oil after this milestone
This item is non application specific. Please verify compatibility before purchase.
NOTE:
When purchasing oil quantities for "initial start up", the engine will be empty of all oils and fluids. This can mean the standard amount of oil needed to fill can be low and inaccurate! Always check your dipstick for proper oil level BEFORE starting AND after the first heat cycle. Please plan ahead with proper oil quantities!
