Biohazard’s second album reflected a new kind of crossover. While the Brooklyn quartet certainly took notes on the hardcore-and-metal mining feel of the mid-Eighties CBGB scene — mixing supremely squealing guitar solos with mosh rhythms and streamlined intensity — bassist-vocalist Evan Seinfeld and guitarist Billy Graziadei also peppered rap-styled wordplay into infectiously rhythmic beatdowns like “Punishment” and “Shades of Grey”. That fresh and heavy hybridity pushed the group into constant rotation on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball, while the record remains a thick-and-thuggy early rap-rock favorite.
