As prepared by vocalist Papa Emeritus and his band of Nameless Ghouls, the band’s 2010 full-length was an electric, Luciferian first look at a future metal institution. The soaring, but sacrilegious songcraft of all-timers like “Ritual” and “Elizabeth” bear the mark of the devil, but also the influence of Mercyful Fate, psych-tinged Seventies arena prog and more. Ghost’s heaviest, most gloom-swung album is still worshipped by the faithful, and can be possessed again on classic black wax.
