The roots of U.S. gore-grind are twisted and knotted up in the festering innards of Repulsion’s legendary and unflinchingly furious debut album, Horrified. Recorded in a Flint, Michigan basement in ’86 as the Slaughter of the Innocent demo, and then remixed and re-released as Horrified in ’89, the 18-song monstrosity is a relentless attack of reckless blasts, Neanderthalic riffs and maggot-infested lyrical odes to cannibalistic graveyard rituals. Repulsive? Without a doubt, but Horrified remains an impressively nauseating and absolutely essential listen for any extreme metal fan.
