Product Description
Blue Cloud Water Lettuce, also known as FPBC Pistia Stratiotes "Rosetta," is a stunning tropical, free-floating plant with velvety ribbed leaves that form delicate, pale green rosettes. Resembling a cabbage plant, the leaves can grow up to 8 inches long and 3 inches wide, producing plantlets that stretch out from the mother plant on slender stems. These plantlets can be separated and older plants thinned out as needed.
This plant, which gets its name from its lettuce-like appearance, features spongy leaves near the base with dense soft pubescence on prominent parallel veins. The roots are numerous, feathery, and dense, hanging unbranched 6-8 inches below the water's surface with a feather-like appearance due to fine root hairs covering each root. It is a favorite snack for koi fish.
With soft, velvety, blue-green leaves, Blue Cloud Water Lettuce thrives in full sun to part shade and is suited for Zones 8-10. It produces inconspicuous yellow-green to creamy-white flowers from June to September, with fruits arising from the female flower as green berries with many seeds. This fast-growing plant absorbs fertilizer from the water and floats atop the water's surface, reaching heights of 2 to 6 inches.
Please note that this plant cannot be shipped to AL, FL, LA, MS, SC, TX, and WI. In California, it is regulated by county and may not be shipped to many parts of the state. When shipping, roots may be trimmed as they can fall off during transit due to heat. If roots fall off upon receiving the plant, simply place them in your pond and allow a couple of weeks for re-establishment. For best results, we recommend shipping earlier in the week to avoid lengthy shipping times caused by carrier weekend breaks. Orders placed Wednesday through Friday are likely to be shipped the following Monday.
