Product Description
Dasajin Lotus (Bare Root) is a unique and very unusual large lotus variety with purple accents. The HUGE creamy white flowers (10"-14") have a jagged picotee of purple along the outer edge of the petals, while the inner petals are tipped with green. This large lotus variety grows tall, 48" and taller, and has multi-petal flowers with more than 50 petals.
To properly care for the Dasajin Lotus, make sure to plant it in a pot that is at least 20" or wider and 12" or more in depth. Fill the pot at least half full of soil to provide support and stability for the leaves, allowing them to withstand strong winds. Deeper soil also helps keep the heavy flowers and buds from falling.
When it comes to fertilizing the Dasajin Lotus, choose a good fertilizer such as Waterlily World Tablets, Pondtabbs, or Landon's Aquatic Fertilizer. Wait until the plant has several floating leaves or begins to put up aerial leaves before adding fertilizer. Follow the instructions carefully and base the amount of fertilizer on the size of the pot and the amount of soil in the pot. Stop fertilizing in late summer to encourage the lotus to form better rhizomes.
For slow-release fertilizer like Nutricote 14-4-14, follow the amount directions on the package. Place the fertilizer around the bottom of the pot, then add soil. Plant the rhizome in the soil at the top of the soil layer and let it grow down to find the fertilizer. Avoid using 360-day fertilizer as it will release fertilizer for too long and the lotus will not form as many rhizomes when it goes dormant. Enjoy the beauty of the Dasajin Lotus in your garden or pond!
